Sheep without a Shepherd - Neglecting the Bountiful Harvest?
Matthew 9:36-38 "36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.'"
Is your response when seeing the confused and lost masses today one of compassion? Do you understand them to be 'harassed' and 'helpless' under the attacks of Satan, who like a lion who desires to kill and destroy?
Is your next response (following compassion) one of prayer and action? Do you pray and long to see more people (including ourselves) more effectively mobilized to harvesting the fruit that the Holy Spirit is preparing?
This is a convicting passage for me...to more consistently respond with compassion, earnest prayer, and a longing to seize the many opportunities available for bringing others into the flock of Christ.
