Hospital Day #7 - 12/5/23 PM - A Post-Operation Summary

Hospital Day #7 - 12/5/23 PM POST-OP

Brittney’s surgery went great and she is resting now! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Her surgery was very challenging and took a little longer than planned.  Several angioplasty balloons popped 😳 her right carotid was “nasty” and took 3 stents (4 stents total).  But God opened up her 100% blocked left vertebral artery! 🙌🏻 ( but is still very “nasty”)

So she should be ICU tonight and home tomorrow.  Blood thinners and followup angiogram procedure in 6 months and more testing ahead.  But these four stents should make a big difference!

Thank you so much for your prayers!!!

We can’t thank you enough for your prayers during this very serious surgery. We appreciate continued prayers as she recovers and heals.  She’ll spend the night in the ICU for observation and prayerfully we’ll head home tomorrow!

2 Thessalonians 1:3-4 “We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. [4] Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring.”

Picture above of her 100% blocked artery (looks different now that God opened it! 🙌🏻 praise the Lord)

Hospital Day #7 - 12/5/23 PM - Pre-Operation Details

Hospital Day #7 - 12/5/23 PM PRE-OP

Brittney’s surgery to repair her carotid & vertebral arteries with stents just started! It will probably take 2-3 hours and then she’ll spend the night in the ICU.  We are so grateful for your prayers!

She has been very nervous, weaker and more tired recently.  But still no signs of stroke! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 She is just ready to get the surgery done and to feel better 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Here is what they are doing regarding all (4/4) of the arteries that supply blood to her brain (diagrams attached may be helpful too):

  • 1-2 stents (& angioplasty/balloon expansion) in her torn & 60% blocked (with pseudo aneurysm) right carotid artery (side of neck into brain)
  • 1 stent (& angioplasty/ballon expansion) in her torn & 73% blocked (with pseudo aneurysm) right vertebral artery (from top section of spine into brain)
  • Her left vertebral artery is 100% blocked and inoperable - but we’re praying that the Lord reopens it over time!
  • Her left carotid artery is irregular with a small tear and pseudo aneurysm, but currently has no blockage so no stents are needed at this time

Here are some ways to pray:

  • For a successful angioplasties (balloon expansions) and emplacement of the stents
  • For no strokes or brain damage during or after surgery
  • For skill, wisdom, and discernment for the doctors and nurses to see and do everything that needs to be done
  • For Brittney’s full healing and recovery with no future complications, arterial tears, blockages, aneurysms, or strokes
  • For peace of mind and God’s comfort for our daughters during the surgery, recovery, and into the future

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, love, and prayers!!

Philippians 4:6-7 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. [7] And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
